Sexual harassment of women at the workplace is one of the serious problems faced by many Indian organizations. To combat this menace, the Indian Parliament passed the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act in 2013. The Act, which superseded the Vishaka guidelines for Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH), is applicable to all organizations in the country with more than 10 staffers. It stipulates that these organizations form an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) with a woman employee heading it. Furthermore, the organizations need to educate their employees on the provisions of this Act.
