The drag and drop interactivity is a great way to engage learners and enables developers to create highly interesting eLearning courses. It is primarily used in assessments. In this activity, learners need to drag the targets and drop them in the right place.
Adobe Captivate 7 is one of the widely used authoring tools in which developers can create Drag and Drop exercises. Drag and Drop interactivities can be created, using this tool, through Widgets or through the Drag and Drop Interaction Wizard.
Let us now see how to create the Drag and Drop interactivity by using the Drag and Drop interaction Wizard. These are the 5 steps involved in creating this interaction.
- Create your interactivity slide
- Launch the Drag and Drop interaction Wizard
- Select the Drag options
- Select the Drop targets
- Match the Drag options to the Drop targets
Create your interactivity slide
Open your captivate file and design the slide with the drag and drop targets. Make sure that the design is simple with an appealing look and feel. A sample design with Drag and Drop targets is shown below.
Launch the Drag and Drop interaction Wizard
Now go to the Insert menu and select the Launch Drag and Drop Interaction wizard from the list.
Select the Drag options
Once the Launch Drag and Drop Interaction Wizard option is selected, the Drag and Drop Interaction Wizard window opens. Specify the drag sources by selecting the drag objects and click Next. Individual or multiple drag objects can be selected.
After selecting the Drag objects click the Next button.
Select the Drop targets
Select the Drop targets. You can easily identify them as they are highlighted with a different color after selecting the target. Then click the Next button.
Match the Drag options to the Drop targets
After you have selected the drag and drop targets, it’s time to match the options with the targets. Options have a (+) icon over the drag objects to match the drop targets.
Once you drag the objects to the drop target, you can see an arrow pointing towards the drop target. Complete the creation of the activity by dropping the respective targets and click the Finish button.
You can preview the slide by pressing F8 or F10 to view the functionality. The screen shot given below shows the output of the slide.
Here are some samples of drag and drop slides which we created for our courses.
Thus, you can create Drag and Drop interactions using Captivate 7. Hope you find this blog interesting.
