Do You Really Need an LMS?

Written By Shalini Talluri

Some organizations use LMS for activities which can be done by any online portal (if it is just document sharing etc.). But organizations have several training needs which an LMS with its many features can help implement efficiently. So, what are these features that can be done only by an LMS?

These features are particularly beneficial if organizations have the following prerequisites.

Need Certification of Training for Learners:

Using LMS organizations can provide certification of training for learners to assure that they have got trained in specialized courses.
Example: In US, as per the FCPA and FDA, an organization must ensure that every employee should get trained on compliance and regulations. They require training with certification and LMS provides an easy alternative to classroom training with authenticated certification.

Need to Provide Training to All Sub Organizations:

If organization wants to conduct a training program in all its sub organizations which are in different locations, LMS makes it possible to organize the entire training program for all employees in a very short period and records all the assessment results easily at a single location. Here LMS ensures that there is no duplication of training.

Need of Tracking and Monitoring Registrations:

If organizations have a need of tracking courses and monitoring the progress of learners LMS is required. Using LMS, administrator maintains records of all users to report them to managers. LMS organizes the registration process effectively and can monitor traffic for any given course. This helps organizations justify future e-learning programs.

Integrate Social Networking System of Courses:

If organization wants to integrate social networking services internally to engage the learners, LMS is the best option. Administrators will be able to do online content management to control and modify the dynamic content as per the instructor suggestions through an LMS.

Provide Customizable Interface for Learners:

LMS administrator can provide a customizable interface to users so that they can access courses relevant to them easily without multiple clicks. Users can customize the dashboard, courses and resources so that they can be accessed easily. LMS can deliver training flexibly to a number of people by allowing them access at their convenience.

Organizations can standardize their training procedures by using an LMS. It offers centralized and uniform training for all employees.

To conclude, LMS is a significant investment for any organization. So before investing in one, you need to assess the learner needs and functions of an LMS that fulfill their needs. An LMS that provides all these functions would be an ideal choice.
