How to Create Sample App Using Phone Gap for IOS ?

PhoneGap is an open source mobile application that allows you to create native mobile applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

In this blog, I would like to share how to create IOS apps in Xcode using Phone Gap. To create an IOS app, you need to have a MAC System. You also need to download Xcode Editor 4.5 (minimum required version) and Phone Gap version 2.0.0(minimum required version) and install it.

Following below steps to create the IOS App in Xcode.

  1. Open the terminal and run on MAC System
  2. Type “cd” in the terminal and drag the downloaded phone gap folder and press enter .
  3. Type “ls” and see the list of directories and press enter
  4. Type “cd lib” and press enter
  5. Again type “ls” and see the list of directories and press enter
  6. Type “cdIOS” and press enter key
  7. Again type “ls” and see the list of directories and press enter
  8. Type “cd bin” and press enter key
  9. Again type “ls” and see the list of directories and press enter
  10. Type “./create< space >/Users/commlabindia/Desktop/< projectname > com.commlabindia.”and press enter

EX: ./create /Users/commlabindia/Desktop/app app press the enter key

Now open the app folder in the Xcode. To deploy in Simulator, you have to change the target in the scheme drop-down menu of the toolbar to your project name and active SDK.

Just by clicking run button the app will open in simulator. If you want to run the app in your IOS device you have to select the IOS device instead of simulator on the toolbar. Before doing this you must connect the device to MAC system.

Finally to find the app installation file (.ipa) follow below steps.

  1. Open ITunes on MAC
  2. See the app folder structure in Xcode editor
  3. Select the last folder product > “ “right click on it and select “show in finder” then select the and drag it to ITunes. Now .ipa file created.
  4. Right click on .ipa file and select “show in finder” then you will get the installation file (.ipa).

Now your installation file is ready for publishing in the IOS App Store. In the next blog I will show you how to publish the app to IOS App store.
