How Investing in Workplace Safety Increases Your Organization’s Financial Performance?

Working in an eLearning company I have created many online training programs dealing with employee workplace safety (e.g., Safe Driving, Safe Operations, Hazard Identification, etc.). While developing these eLearning courses I came to know the various hazards present in the factory premises and the importance of safety training to the employees.

Initially, I thought that our clients have a legal compliance requirement to train their employees on health and safety. Yes, this might be the reason for providing safety training to their employees. But later I have realized that these organizations have understood the more superior results of workplace safety and health training to employees, it actually improves the bottom line of these organizations’ performance! Many organizations have proved that a very minimal investment in workplace safety has a huge impact on their profitability.

“Safety is a positive cultural element that leads to other business improvements. In 1990 NRI had 3800 lost days, in 1999, 16 lost days. In 1990 NRI was losing money; In 1999 NRI had top quartile profitability. A primary emphasis was changing the safety culture.

Employees need to know that they are important and that management cares about their welfare.”

Ted Pattenden, CEO, National Rubber Industries (NRI)
Health & Safety Solutions Seminar, April 26, 2001

In fact, workplace accidents and injuries can be prevented. Every organization has an option to train their employees, make them aware of work-related dangers, and tell them how to be cautious, how to avoid injuries, and how to stay healthy in their life. Organizations that have taken such training initiatives have succeeded in preventing accidents and they now have lower injury rates.

Importance or benefits of health and safety training:

  • Increased organization’s productivity
  • Reduced cost of accidents and injuries
  • Reduced asset damage due to accidents
  • Improved employee self-confidence and reliability/trust on the organization
  • Low employee turn-over
  • Less interruption from legal entities
  • Improved brand image of the organization

“As CEO I want to be sure that employees go home each night to family and friends the same way they come to work in the morning. Safe operations contribute to the bottom line. Excellence in health and safety performance leads to improved productivity and lower costs. Time is not lost to injury, investigation processes and all the follow-up that results from an accident. I also believe that an organization that has a high level of health and safety awareness and performance is also an organization that is known for quality in its end products and customer service. That link is a positive contributor to the company’s profit margin”

The organizations that give importance to the health and safety of their employees are quite intelligent, as they follow the simple rule of ‘prevention is better than cure’. If your organization aims for success in business, always give high priority to the health and safety of your employees. It will pay you in the long run!

Most of the organizations are delivering their safety training through eLearning. For a large organization, where there are employees working across the globe and under different time zones it will help the employees to access the course anywhere, anytime.

Is your organization in need of workplace safety training to its employees?

  • Does your organization’s work environment contain hazards/dangers to the employees?
  • Does your organization lose its productivity due to workplace accidents or damaged machine due to wrong usage?
  • Does your organization pay heavy checks to compensate the on-the-job accidents/injuries of its employees?
  • Does your organization suffer law suits for not providing proper workplace safety training to its employees?

Provide Yes No options to each question.

If your answer is ‘Yes’ for at least one question, then your organization is in need of workplace safety training.
