Factor Employee Experience When Designing ELearning Programs

Grownups bring in a lot of experience with them. Unlike children, they are not new to the subject matter, and come with a lot of experience of their own. Learning is NOT one sided, where the instructor passes information to learners, and learners passively assimilate it. On the contrary, learning is collaborative with active exchange of information. Adding new ideas and skills to the existing knowledge base enhances the learning value.

Therefore, when creating training programs or eLearning programs for experienced learners, you need to factor in what they already know, and include activities that will have a direct bearing on the work they do. Theoretical knowledge will have to be backed by practical references that the employee will be able to identify with.
