5 Reasons Why Your Organization Needs Mobile Learning

Can you just imagine a day without a smart-phone or a tablet?

Mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives, and they are making our lives easier. As we know, mobile learning is “learning facilitated through mobile devices without the learner being obliged to stay at a fixed location”.

According to Ambient Insight, by 2017, the mobile learning market in western Europe is likely to reach $885 million.

Here, I would like to share 5 reasons to use mobile learning for effective and efficient learning.

1. Convenience and flexibility

Mobile learning allows learners to get instant access to relevant content, as it is very convenient and flexible. Learners can access courses on their mobile devices anytime, anywhere.

2. Good use of spare time

Mobile learning is ideal to provide Just-in-Time (JIT) support. Learners can get the required information, when they need it, conveniently. They can access courses, quickly and easily, whenever they need, using their personal mobile devices.

Mobile devices allow learners to make the best use of their spare time. They facilitate learning even in “dead time” – in hours considered generally unproductive such as time spent in travelling. This makes mLearning ideal for employees who are often hard-pressed for time. Indeed, learning goes wherever the mobile goes!

3. Offers bite-sized digestible learning

The best thing about mobile learning is that it can be used to deliver bite-sized, micro-lessons because mobile devices are small in size. So, learners can easily “digest” the learning. Furthermore, bite-sized courses help reduce cognitive load.

4. No access barriers

Mobile learning allows learners to use their own personal mobile devices at workplace. Many organizations are supporting the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy to take-up their respective trainings and overcome access barriers.

Mobile learning also provides wider access where several learners use the same learning material at different locations.

5. Cost-effective

“Mobile learners” don’t need to spend much time on the training process. Mobile learning is less expensive than other training formats because many learners have mobile devices from which they can take the online course.
