Scenario-based online learning courses help learners involve in learning as they can relate themselves with the situation. Scenarios can be used to present real life situations that the learners are likely to face in their job role and improve their problem-solving skills.
Adding scenarios to eLearning is a great way to motivate learners. Here, I would like to share some tips on how to create effective scenarios.
1. Concentrate on real-time situations
Scenarios should be used to add realism to the elearning courses. The real-time situations related to the learner’s job role should be captured and included in the courses instead of confusing them with unrelated situations. This can help them to better understand the problems and their role.
Real-time situations can help learners to understand and explore the key concepts or guidelines.
2. Use conversational style
Design scenarios using conversation style as learners can find it easier to engage with content. Scenarios take the learners through the situation and it facilities the learners to a greater extent and makes learning less formal.
A conversational style approach makes the scenario-based learning more engaging and interesting.
3. Challenge the learners
Scenario-based learning can also be made challenging. Instead of presenting the situation and immediately explaining the solution, you can try to give him some clues to identify the problem and give an answer.
This approach can make the e-learning course interactive and also help in assessing their knowledge.
4. Use appropriate characters/graphics
Relevant characters or graphics can add life to your scenarios. Visualization enriches the elearning courses and plays a vital role while developing an effective and interesting scenario. The characters, callouts and labels are very important for the development of a scenario.
5. Change the facial expressions and backgrounds
Scenarios can add more value to the e-learning courses, if the facial expressions of character and backgrounds match with the situation. The character expressions and backgrounds must be changed, based on the decisions taken by the learners.
Adopting scenario-based approach can really prove effective when you have heavy content to be presented or the Dos and Don’ts of a situation. These are some tips that can help you in designing engaging and effective scenarios for your e-learning courses. I hope you find this post interesting. Do share your views.
